Experience

Thomas Similowski is Professor of Respiratory Medicine and Head of the Respiratory Physiopathology Laboratory at the University of Paris, and Head of Respiratory Medicine and Intensive Care at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, Paris. He qualified from the University of Paris, where he also subsequently received his doctorate and habilitation.

Professor Similowski was previously Associate Editor and subsequently Chief Editor of the Revue des Maladies Respiratoires, which is the official organ of the French Society of Respiratory Medicine. He has also been a member of the scientific committee of the French Society of Intensive Care Medicine, Chairman of the Respiratory Muscle Group of the European Respiratory Society and a board member of the French Society of Respiratory Medicine. He is currently a member of the Editorial Board of Respiratory Physiology and Neurobiology, Chairman of the Ethical Committee for Observational Research of the French Society of Respiratory Medicine and a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Applied Physiology.

Professor Similowski has published over 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals and 120 chapters in books. He also co-edited two volumes of the Lung Biology in Health and Disease series devoted to COPD. A selection of his most recent publications is listed below.
