Experience

Sidney Braman has been Professor of Medicine and The Division Director of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at The Alpert Medical School of Brown University since 2000. Since 1973, he has also been Director of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Rhode Island Hospital. He received his bachelor's degree from Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, Pennsylvania and his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia. He subsequently completed fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania and the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and a residency and internship in internal medicine at Philadelphia General Hospital.

Professor Braman received the American College of Chest Physicians' GlaxoSmithKline Distinguished Scholar in Respiratory Health Award for 2007-2010. This award was given to develop a chronic care model for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and its co-morbidities. His research and scholarly interests are primarily related to COPD and asthma, and the investigation of new approaches in the treatment of airway disease. Professor Braman is the past-President of the American College of Chest Physicians and has been a member of the Board of Directors of the CHEST Foundation. He is also a member and former Board member of the American Thoracic Society and was Chairman of its Clinical Problems Assembly and International Conference Committee. He has served as President of the staff association of the Rhode Island Hospital and as member of the Board of Trustees of the hospital.
