Experience
Roberto Rodríguez-Roisin is Professor of Medicine and Chair at the University of Barcelona, and Senior Consultant Physician in Respiratory Medicine at the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona, where he is also Director of Academic Affairs. He qualified at and obtained his doctorate from the University of Barcelona. He completed his medical training in pulmonary medicine at the Brompton Hospital, London, UK.
Professor Rodríguez-Roisin has served as President of the European Respiratory Society and on the Board of Directors of the American Thoracic Society. He serves or has served on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, the Journal of Critical Care, Respiratory Medicine, the European Respiratory Journal, COPD: Journal of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and the Expert Review of Respiratory Medicine. He is currently Chair of the Science and Executive Committees of the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD), and participated in the GOLD Initiative panel. His areas of major interest are the pathophysiology and pathobiology of chronic obstructive airway diseases and he has been awarded several national and international distinctions for the academic and scientific achievements of his team.
