Leadership
The COPDforum leadership is comprised of renowned researchers/clinicians in COPD, who have contributed significantly
to the developments in this field. This global group represents some of the world's thought leaders in this area,
who are prominent in respiratory publications, international and local societies and research initiatives. Click on the

... Read AllCOPDforum is an educational service to provide the latest updates in COPD research, particularly in relation to therapy. This is a rapidly developing field and with the help of international opinion leaders we have produced a set of slides covering epidemiology, mechanisms and treatment of COPD that are continually updated. We hope that these slides will be valuable for education and training at various levels.

Experience
Peter Barnes is Professor of Thoracic Medicine at the National
Heart and Lung Institute, Head of Respiratory Medicine at Imperial
College and Honorary Consultant Physician at Royal Brompton
Hospital, London. He qualified at the Universities of Cambridge and
Oxford, and was appointed to his present post in 1987. In 2007, he
became the first respiratory researcher to be elected a Fellow of
the Royal Society for over 150 years. He is currently a member of
the World Health Organization/National Institutes of Health
Scientific Committee of Global Initiative on Asthma (GINA) and
Global Initiative on Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD). He also
serves on the editorial boards of over 30 journals and is currently
an Associate Editor of Chest and respiratory editor of PLoS
Medicine. He has given several prestigious lectures, including the
Amberson Lecture at the American Thoracic Society and the Sadoul
Lecture at the European Respiratory Society.
Professor Barnes has published over 1000 peer-reviewed papers on
asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and related topics,
and has edited over 40 books. He is among the top 50 most highly
cited researchers in the world and has been the most highly cited
clinical scientist in the UK and the most highly cited respiratory
researcher in the world over the last 20 years. A sample of his
