Experience

Jørgen Vestbo is Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Copenhagen and Consultant at Hvidovre University Hospital, Hvidovre, Denmark. He is also Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Manchester and Honorary Consultant Physician at The North West Lung Centre, South Manchester University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester, UK. He qualified at, and received his doctorate from, the University of Copenhagen.

Professor Vestbo is a member of the Science Committee of the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD), the Executive Committee of GOLD, the ‘Screening, Detection and Diagnosis Subgroup’ for the development of the UK COPD National Service Framework, the Scientific Advisory Board of the Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility at the University of Manchester and the Executive Committee of the Burden of Lung Disease Initiative (BOLD). He was also previously Treasurer and Chairman of the Danish Society of Respiratory Medicine.

Professor Vestbo has been Associate Editor for Respiratory Medicine and the European Respiratory Journal, and is currently Associate Editor of the Clinical Respiratory Journal. He also serves on the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, the International Advisory Board of Thorax, the scientific panel of the Journal of the Danish Medical Association and on the Editorial Board of BMJ Case Reports.
